This weekend, Gwen, Brigitte and I took a trip to Edinburgh Scotland. We took an overnight bus (which was absolute HELL) but we made it there in one piece early Saturday morning. We had a great weekend exploring this beautiful city. I am so lucky to be able to see the world like this! Instead of telling the whole story of the trip here, I'll put the info in the captions below.
The Royal Mile, early morning. |
Our first moments of sightseeing in Scotland! |
Pretty hotel with Scotland's flag. |
On the tour bus! Can you tell I was running on 3 hours of sleep? CRAZY EYES! |
Monument to... someone... but really pretty nonetheless haha! |
Scottish National Gallery. |
My pals Gwen and Brigitte! |
Edinburgh Castle (I took about 300 pictures of this haha). |

Edinburgh Castle in black and white... |
Pretty pretty castle! |
The architecture of the city was so beautiful! |
Edinburgh Castle with pretty graveyards. So picturesque. |
Graveyard with guard turret (you know, to stop the gravediggers). |
Another cool view of the castle. |
Castle on the hill! |
The city was filled with pretty alleyways like this. |
I love step-gabled houses so much! Beautiful beautiful beautiful. |
Buildings on buildings on buildings! |
According to our bus tour, Sean Connery posed nude at this art school in his youth teeheehee. |
I love this picture! Such a cool view of the castle! |
More beautiful buildings. |
A pretty church. |

An interesting way to repurpose a phonebooth! Haha. |

Busts in a stairwell in the Scottish National Gallery. |
We were planning on staying in this hostel, but it was absolutely DISGUSTING! I mean, look at those stains! YUUCK! So, we ended up just booking a room in a Travelodge closer to the city center. After the terrible night of sleep we had in the bus, it was the best decision we made all weekend haha. |
Little Scottish kids playing drums and bagpipes! The big crowds were headed to a rugby game. |
GROSS HOSTEL! No way we were going to stay there haha. |
View of Edinburgh at night. |
I loved these painted signs throughout the streets. |
Really no nightlife in Edinburgh, haha. |
We went to a traditional Scottish pub for dinner on Saturday night. One of the appetizers on the menu was nachos, with a side of haggis as an option. I thought it was a good trade-off - I didn't have to commit to a whole plate of haggis in case I didn't like it, but I still got to try it. I really liked it! |
Continuing our tour of the city on Sunday morning! |
Bridge with pretty hotel. |
I CAN SEE THE OCEAN! |
Pretty pretty streets. |
I believe this is where Agatha Christie had her honeymoon? Strange facts on our tour bus haha. |
The Travelodge - our savior! |
Hike up Arthur's Seat. It was so much fun and SO beautiful! |
Me, Gwen, and Brigitte on the trail. |
Wow. Just, wow. |
View of the ocean through the valley. Breathtaking. |
Winding paths. |
It was a steep climb! |
Could it get any prettier than this? |
AH! SO PRETTY! |
Where we stopped our climb. It was a really great lookout point! |
Me & Gwen! |
At the top of the Seat with our path behind us. |
Path to the edge of the world? |
Golf course below. |
Pretty panorama of Edinburgh. |
As soon as we started our descent, the sky cleared up and you could see a beautiful mountain range in the distance. |
See a Scottie dog in Scotland? Check! |
At the end of the hike. |
Mountains in the distance. |
I think this was the Queen's Palace in Edinburgh. |
Royal Botanical Gardens. |
Royal Botanical gardens again. Wish we could have been here in the springtime! |
Another cool cemetery.
Overall, it was a really fantastic trip and I'm so glad we got to see this amazing city! Looking forward to more little adventures like this in the future.
